Indian hostage dies in captivity Ahmad Qureshi - Feb 9, 2009 - 16:20Simon, an Indian national along with two Afghans, working in ISAF headquarter based in Herat airbase were kidnapped by prominent anti-government figure Ghulam Yahya Akbari when they were on their way from the city to Guzara district. Two Afghan captives, Mirwais and Aziz were later freed. Akbari told Pajhwok Afghan News on Monday that the Indian had passed away five days back and was buried in an undisclosed location, he maintained stating that initially he though the Indian was killed by one of his armed men but later after the investigation it was discovered that he died a natural death. Ghulam Mahbub Afzal Zada, district chief of Guzara confirmed the death of the Indian and said the reason behind the killing was not clear yet. He added he was informed about the sickness of the captive. Akbari also informed he would not hand over the corpse of the Indian to authorities unless his son was not released. AfzalZada said the son of Akbari was arrested by security officials and this belonged to them to take any decision however security officials expressed unawareness about the case. It is pertinent to mention here that the fate of three workers of Etisalat Communication Company who were abducted by Akbari armed men is still unknown. Sshakir/ajr | ||
