Football event begins in Kandahar

KANDAHAR (PAN): A six-day football tournament involving four teams, including one from Pakistan, commenced in this southern city, an official said on Monday.
Teams from Kandahar, Farah and Pakistan's Balochistan province are taking part in the event, called Dr. Alam Paind Football Tournament, said Muhammadullah Gulalai, deputy sports director.
The first match was played between Kandahar's Eno and Farah teams at the Ahmad Shahi Playground on Sunday afternoon. Eno won the game 4-0, Gulalai said.
Javed Ahmad, a player of the triumphant squad, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had done a lot of practice before the tournament that he hoped to win.
Balochistan take on Kandahar's Sherzai team today. A large number of fans were seen arriving at the venue despite a recent spike in insecurity.
