QALAT (PAN): Ten militants, including Al Qaeda fighters and their commanders, were killed during a military operation in the southern province of Zabul, officials said on Wednesday.
Based on intelligence reports, the offensive was launched in Ghaziabad village of Omki area on the outskirts of Qalat city, the provincial capital, the governor’s house said in a statement.
The group had recently arrived in the village from Pakistan, the statement said, adding 10 insurgents, including Al Qaeda, Taliban, Arabs and Chechens, were killed and two others were detained during the operation, it said.
A machinegun, some hand grenades, ammunitions and passports of different countries were recovered from the scene, security officials said.
The operation was launched in Hasan Neeka area situated between Qalat City and Arghandab district, a resident of the area, Ghulam Nabi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A Taliban local commander, Mullah Mohammad Alam, was among several fighters killed in clashes with security forces, Nabi said.
The defencee ministry on Tuesday said two Pakistanis were among five Taliban militants killed and a French and a Moroccan militants were detained in the province.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed they killed several Afghan and foreign soldiers during clashes in Omki Hasan Neeka area on Monday night. Their six fighters were also killed, he said.
