MAHMUD RAQI (PAN): The death toll from a car suicide bombing in central Kapisa province increased to nine after six of the seriously wounded people succumbed to their injuries in hospital, officials said on Wednesday.

At least 15 people were injured when the attacker detonated his explosives-laden vehicle near the Department of Hajj and Religious Affairs in Mahmud Raqi, the provincial capital, at 9:45am, Deputy Governor Azizur Rahman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The bomber was positively identified, but he detonated his explosives before police could reach him. The dead included two policemen and seven civilians. Three bodies and 15 injured people were taken to the Kapisa Civil Hospital.

Public Health Director Dr. Raja said six of the injured died of their injuries at hospital. Some of the wounded individuals were in critical condition, he added.

Students were also among the victims, witness Asadullah said. They were going to school when the blast occurred, he said.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that seven people, including two policemen, were killed and several others wounded in the bombing.

A Taliban was scheduled to visit the province on Wednesday.
