QALAT (PAN fighters were killed and as many others were captured alive during a clash with police in Dai Chopan district of southern Zabul province, an official said on Friday.
The clash broke out in the Kebi village late on Thursday night after police launched an operation there against insurgents on the request of residents, provincial police chief, Abdul Nabi Elham, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Four armed insurgents were killed and four others were detained, he said. Police seized two walkie-talkies from the detainees. A bike belonging to the militants was destroyed during the firefight, Elham said.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, meanwhile, said the fighters had shot down a helicopter of foreign troops in the Sewri district of the province, killing all soldiers on board.
But Elham said the NATO copter had performed an emergency landing on a highway in the district on Thursday evening. There were no casualties, the police chief said.
