KABUL): A parliamentary delegation is being sent to eastern Kunar and Nangarhar provinces to assess the situation and assist the victims in the wake of Pakistani cross-border attacks.
Over the past month, Pakistani forces have fired 750 artillery shells into three of the Afghan provinces that border Pakistan. A number of people have been killed, wounded and displaced due to the shelling.
Parliament on Wednesday created a 12-member delegation which will travel to eastern Kunar and Nangarhar provinces to investigate losses and property damages caused by the cross-border attacks.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said the commission comprised members of several committees including those for interior, defence, martyrs and the disabled, and international affairs, as well as two lawmakers from Kunar and Nangahar.
MP Ramazan Bashardost suggested lawmakers should provide monetary assistance to the victims from their own pockets.
He also said the commission should reach out to the Red Cross and other international charity organizations to seek their help in alleviating the plight of people affected by the cross border attacks.
