20 tractors donated to Nangarhar farmers

JALALABAD (PAN): Twenty tractors and seed-cleaning machines were donated to farmers of Behsud and Kama districts in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.

The tractors with other necessary equipment, costing $400,000, were given to 20 farmers’ cooperatives by the Ministry of Agriculture, Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) and the Ministry of Rural Development and Rehabilitation.

“We are trying to extend the aid to other districts of Nangarhar,” Agriculture Director Mohammad Hussain Safi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The donated vehicles included a machine, which can clean 2.5 tonnes of wheat seeds a day. It has been manufactured by the Agriculture Development Team (ADT) at a cost of $200,000.

The agriculture sector would witness a huge boost as a result of assistance to growers from government and non-governmental organisations, hoped Behsud district chief, Naimatullah.

Some three months ago, 40 tractors were donated to farmers’ cooperatives in Chaparhar, Ghanikhel, Kot and Batikot districts of the province.
