PUL-I-ALAM (PAN fighters, were detained as a result of an operation in the central province of Logar, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was launched by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Wednesday night in the Purak area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai told Pajhwok Afghan News raids on the houses of Dr. Hesamuddin and Rokhan and on a clinic led to the arrest of 11 suspects, including four fighters.
The militants were captured from the house of Hesam with a machine gun, two Kalashnikovs, a pistol and some ammunition, he said.
The other people were detained on the charge of sheltering the Taliban in their houses, said the crime branch chief, Col. Mohammad Jan Abid.
“Foreign troops were airdropped from helicopters at midnight,” said a resident of the area, Aziz. The soldiers entered the house of Rokhan before detaining the four people from Hesam’s residence. The detainees included Hesam and his son. The latter was detained from a clinic, he said.
A statement from ISAF media office said they conducted the operation against a leader of the Haqqani network in the area and detained several militants with weapons.
