KABUL): Two insurgents were killed and 30 others arrested during security operations in different provinces over the past 24 hours, the ministries of defence and interior said on Sunday.
The operations were jointly conducted by Afghan and NATO-led troops in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, Zabul, Takhar and Baghlan provinces.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said 18 rebels were detained and four AK-47 assault rifles, as many different kinds of weapons, one pistol, three kilograms of ammonium nitrate, 482 kg of opium and nine remote-controlled devices were seized during the offensives.
Another 12 insurgents were detained and two anti-vehicle mines, 560 kg of hashish and a motorbike were seized in Nangarhar, Paktika, Helmand, Kandahar and Herat provinces. Also two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers sustained slight injuries in line of duty in the Sarobi district of Kabul province, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a separate statement said a huge ammunition depot containing 18 BM12 shells with 50 warheads, six boxes of anti-aircraft bullets, and more than 2,000 machinegun’s bullets were recovered in the Mir Bachakot district of Kabul.
No arrest could be made in connection with the ammunitions, it said.
