Women empowerment centre being constructed

KABUL (AUAF) in the capital Kabul, officials said.

The two-storey building is being constructed over 2.75 acres of land on the university campus, Dr. Sharif Fayiz, the AUAF founder, told a ceremony held in this regard.

The proposed centre would have facilities like classrooms, meeting hall, computer labs, video conference hall, internet facility, English language room, research lab and radio station, he said.

Women would be trained on economic empowerment during short-term and mid-term courses to be started by December this year.

US Ambassador in Kabul Ryan C Crocker called the centre a positive step towards Afghanistan’s economic growth, saying “It is very important for Afghanistan economic the development to provide equal opportunity to women.”

Since inception in 2006, the student strength at the AUAF has increased to 750 in 2011.
