KABUL): The Cabinet on Monday approved a fund for the treatment of 2,000 children born with holes in their hearts, the Presidential Palace said.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) had requested financial support for the children, with 513 of them needing urgent treatment, the palace said in a statement.
ARCS officials said the children’s treatment was impossible at home and should be taken abroad for treatment, which required $2 million (98.3 million afghanis).
The Cabinet approved half of the requested funds, with the rest managed by ARCS itself, the statement said. President Hamid Karzai ordered the Ministry of Finance to release the funds as soon as possible.
