CHARIKAR with the northern provinces, officials said today.
Commander of Salang Pass Gen. Abdul Rajab told Pajhwok Afghan News the early morning snowfall plus storms crippled the busy mountain highway.
He said currently 80 centimetres snow was recorded in the south and northern side of the Russian built-tunnel, which could possibly trigger avalanches that may further block the highway.
Mohammad Yonus Pardis, Parwan traffic department chief said passenger vehicles had been parked in the Tajikan area for safety purpose.
Heavy snowfalls on Salang Pass during winter seasons had been fatal, with several reported deaths in the past.
On Feb. 8, 2010, 170 people died and 125 were injured as a result of heavy snowstorms and avalanches that hit the tunnel.
