Students, teachers urged to focus on knowledge

KHOST CITY (PAN Obaidullah Obaid on Sunday called on university students and teachers to avoid political, religious and regional differences and focus on knowledge and progress.

Addressing a gathering in southeastern Khost province, Obaid said the Sheikh Zayed University had seen considerable growth in recent years. The university had well-equipped departments, labs, libraries and other facilities, he added.

With the number of students increasing and teachers showing a good sense of commitment, some projects would be implemented at the campus, he promised. “If you focus on politics, your future will be dark and you will be deprived of knowledge.”

If the people continued supporting it, the university would further grow and join the best seats of scholarship in the country, the minister said.

A number of parliamentarians from Khost and Paktia and tribal elders participated in the gathering.

Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi said there were more than 5,000 students enrolled in the university. He added the present classrooms and hostels could not meet students’ needs.

Chancellor Prof. Gul Hassan Walizai said he would try his best to resolve the problems facing the university. He also urged the minister to order the construction of a boundary wall around the university, spread over 375 acres of land.
