MEHTARLAM (PAN, officials said on Thursday.
The incident that occurred at the Sirajul Islam School in the Alingar district last night is being investigated by police, the governor’s spokesman said. Sarhadi Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News no arrest had been made so far in connection with the arson attack.
District chief Haji Alaf Shah blamed the incident on radicals opposed to education and girls. He said it was the handiwork of the enemies of peace, stability and education. “A real Muslim cannot do this to a school,” he said.
Although such acts are blamed on the Taliban, the rebels deny their involvement in attacks on schools. In a latest statement issued on Thursday, the Taliban said schools remained open during their regime.
