22 dead, 44 wounded in Peshawar blast

ISLAMABAD (PAN’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Friday.

The 10-kilogram blast ripped through a bus carrying Civil Secretariat employees in the Gulbela area on the outskirts of Peshawar, a police officer said.

Shafiullah told Pajhwok Afghan News the ill-fated vehicle — travelling from Peshawar to Charsadda district — was destroyed as a result of the remote-controlled explosion.

The casualties were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar and the Charsadda District Headquarters Hospital. Eleven dead bodies and 25 injured people were brought to LRH, Dr. Tariq said.

Six of the wounded are in serious condition, he continued. The dead included six women and a child.

Another 10 bodies were received at the Charsadda hospital, said Dr. Mubashir, in charge of the facility. Three women were among the fatalities, he said, adding that three of the 21 injured were in critical condition.

With no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, Shafiullah said police had cordoned off the scene. The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is often blamed for such bombings.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the explosive device had been planted under the bus. “At the moment, we can’t say how many government employees or private passengers were killed.”
