FARAH CITY (PAN): A rebel commander was killed along with two other fighters during a predawn firefight with police in the Pushtrod district of northwestern Farah province on Friday, an official said.
Abdul Qadir was killed along with his associates after they stormed a police checkpoint in the Saaj village of the district at 1am, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Abdur Rahman Zhwandai said police and civilians suffered no harm during the gunbattle, which was also verified by the district’s administrative head, Ghausuddin Ahmad.
Ahmad accused Qadir, who escaped from the central prison in Farah City in 1386— , of planning and conducting armed attacks in the district. He said two of the attackers were wounded in the clash.
