KABUL) on Wednesday said it had adopted a new voter registration plan for presidential and provincial council polls, accepting both old voting cards, as well as computerised identity cards.
The plan was approved after a series of consultative meetings with stakeholders, including mainstream political parties and civil society organisations over the past couple of months, the commission said.
In case the electronic identity cards are issued, eligible voters may use them to exercise their right to vote, according to a statement from the poll panel.
“Taking into consideration the security and economic situation of the country, the IEC will allow the use of old cards and will update the previous process to register the eligible people who recently reached the age of 18 years,” the statement added.
