HERAT CITY (PAN): A primary court awarded the capital punishment to three men and sentenced two co-accused to 20 years each in jail in western Herat province for kidnapping three people, including a doctor, and murdering one of them.
“One of the captives was killed three months back. The victims include two sons of a trader. The deceased was one of his sons,” said Judge Abdul Rassoul Mansoor, while handing down the verdict.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the decision was based on evidence brought before the court and that he had sentenced Abdul Saboor and Ghulam Mahbob to death and co-accused Said Mohammmad and Rakib to 20 years in imprisonment under the criminal law.
“The trial was transparent and every accused was given enough time to defend himself; the accused reserve the right to appeal the sentence,” the judge said.
