SHARAN (PAN): A group of suicide bombers attacked the Gayan district centre in southeastern Paktika province on Tuesday morning, killing five policemen, a senior official said.
Following a car bombing, the assailants forced their way into the district headquarters, the provincial police chief, Dawlat Khan Zadran, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
So far, five Afghan policemen and a border police official have been killed, according to Zadran, who said the district headquarters had been destroyed.
With rescuers still searching for bodies and those trapped under the rubble, the police chief feared the death toll could rise.
As usual the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying dozens Afghan and foreign troops as well as their advisors had been killed and wounded.
