Calling the Taliban his brothers, the president asked the fighters to lay down their arms and enter the reconciliation campaign. “On this day of happiness and pleasure, I once again call Taliban my brothers, those who are Muslims and who consider themselves sons of this soil.
“Taliban brothers, lay down foreigners’ arms, return to your motherland and join hands with your fellow countrymen for progress and development of your country and for strengthening Islam and Afghanhood …”
Karzai urged the Taliban to stop killing civilians by joining the peace process and avoiding inflicting losses upon elders, widows, sons, youth and children of Afghanistan.
