WASHINGTON (PAN.
Following a special meeting, Security Council President Eugène-Richard Gasana from Rwanda said no terrorist act could reverse the path toward Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability.
The Security Council met to condemn the April 3 Taliban attack on a courthouse in the capital of the western province, where 54 people were killed and 100 others wounded.
Expressing deep sympathies with and condolences to families of the victims, the Security Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organisers and financiers and of the reprehensible act to justice.
It urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate with the Afghan authorities in this regard.
Voicing their serious concern at the threats posed by the Taliban, Al Qaida and illegal armed groups to the local population, the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations was criminal and unjustifiable.
Reading out the presidential statement at the UN headquarters in New York, Gasana said members of the Security Council reaffirmed the need and reiterated their determination to combat terror by all means.
