KABUL and northern Faryab provinces, officials said on Friday.
The former Charsada district chief, Najibullah, was killed along with one of his guards on Thursday night in Khoranj village of the district, according to Ghor police chief, Col. Dilawar Shah Dilawar. He told Pajhwok Afghan News two suspects had been detained in connection with the murders.
Najibullah, who had also served as Pasaband district chief, was killed as a result of personal enmity, said Fazal Haq Ihsan, the provincial council head.
In Faryab, unknown gunmen shot dead a tribal influential, Imam Arban, in Pakhtunkot district on Thursday night, the district chief, Abdul Qadir Qadari, said.
Arban was on his way to a nearby mosque to perform Esha prayers when he was attacked, the official said, adding police had launched an investigation into the incident.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said the man killed in Pakhtunkot district was a tribal militia commander.
