MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): A private university chancellor was found dead on Monday, two days after he was abducted by unknown gunmen near Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, police said.
The Mualana Jalaluddin Balkhi University head, Zarif Khan, was traveling on the outskirts of Mazar-i-Sharif when abducted by unknown armed men.
His body was found dumped in Dehdadi district and was shifted to the Civil Hospital in Mazar, police spokesman Sher Jan Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victim’s son Faridon said his father had been kidnapped and killed by two former jihadi commanders. However, he would not reveal their names, saying the family had informed police who kidnapped Zarif Khan. But the police did nothing, he said.
Faridon said his father’s body was found in Pusht Bagh area and that they had no enmity with anyone. “My father was killed for political reasons,” he said, but did not explain.
