ASADABAD (PAN): Two Afghan National Army troops and one policeman were killed during a clash with insurgents in eastern Kunar province, while 35 kilograms of heroin seized in southwestern Nimroz on Monday, officials said.
Armed rebels attacked a border security post in Sarkano district, sparking a gun-battle with security forces in the afternoon, the governor’s spokesman, Wasifullah Wasifi, said.
In the ensuing clash, two ANA soldiers and one policeman were killed, he said, adding the attackers also suffered casualties, but he had no details.
The Taliban said their fighters killed up to 15 government soldiers in a number of attacks in the district.
The attack came three days after more than a dozen troops were killed in an insurgent attack on another border post in Nari district of the province.
In Nimroz, police confiscated bags containing 35 kilograms of heroin from a wheat field in the Chakhansor district, police spokesman Javed Kargar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said no arrest could be made in connection with the narcotics, but an investigation was in place.
