KABUL Ambassador David Pearce called on President Hamid Karzai on Monday.
Before his arrival in Kabul, Pearce met senior Pakistani diplomats on working jointly for promoting the peace process in Afghanistan and stabilising the wider region.
A statement from Karzai’s office said a planned trilateral meeting among the US, Afghanistan and Pakistan during the president’s visit to Brussels also came up for discussion.
US Secretary of State John Kerry will host the three-way talks between President Karzai and senior Pakistan officials on Wednesday, foreign media quoted a senior State Department official as saying said.
From Kabul, Ambassador Pearce will travel to Brussels from April 23-24 to accompany Secretary of State John Kerry for a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
US Ambassador to Afghanistan James B. Cunningham and Special Assistant to US President Dagulas Lute also attended the meeting, which came at a time when tension is running high between Kabul and Islamabad.
