PUL-I-ALAM/SHARAN (PAN): Hundreds of religious scholars from central Logar province on Tuesday announced their stout support for the next presidential elections.
Afghans should actively participate in the 2014 vote to decide their future, a member of the Logar Ulema Mohammad Rafiq, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He asked the government’s armed opposition to shun fighting, support elections and let the nation elect its new leader in the supreme interest of the country.
High Peace Council head for Logar, Maulvi Asadullah Hanif, asked the people to get voting cards to demonstrate their opposition to war.
Governor Arsala Jamal called the elections a national process, thanking religious scholars for supporting it and encourage people’s participation.
Separately, hundreds of spiritual leaders and tribal elders denounced recent attacks of the Pakistan army on Afghan border posts in Nangarhar province.
At gathering in southeastern Paktika province, they announced their support to Afghan forces. Against Pakistan’s aggression, all Afghan tribes were ready to support their forces, said the Paktia tribal council head, Mullah Mohammad Masoom.
He asked the international community, especially the US, not to remain silent on the dispute between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Hundreds of people, including Deputy Governor Qazi Mohammad Nabi, staged an anti-Pakistan protest organised by the Kunar Youth Coordination Association in the eastern province.
They would defend their territory and in case of need they would fight alongside Afghan forces against aggressors, promised a member of the association, Ashiqullah Takari.
