HIA condemns Iranian fire at Afghan workers

KABUL on Wednesday condemned the killing of some innocent Afghan workers by Iranian borders forces, saying the shooting negated good neighbourliness and other international norms.

Hundreds of Afghan citizens, who were going to Iran for work, came under attack from Iranian border guards as they crossed into the neighbouring country from western Farah province last week. Ten of them were killed and more than a dozen wounded.

A statement released from the HIA, led by Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, said about 150 workers had since been missing. “The brutal action of Iranian forces has anguished several of our countrymen.”

The HIA denounced the incident as a tragic and anti-Islamic act, asking the Afghan government to launch an immediate probe into the shooting.

It urged called for effective steps to ensure the protection of Afghans’ lives and properties and prevent a recurrence of such incidents in future.
