KABUL fighters were killed and several others wounded during clashes with security forces in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours.
Thirty Afghan and foreign insurgents were killed and 17 others wounded in clashes with security forces in southern Ghazni province on Saturday, an official said.
The clashes broke out early on Saturday morning when a group of insurgents launched their attacks on security posts in the Sajadi and Shujaa villages of the Gilan district, the town’s administrative head, Mahbobullah Sabawoon, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Members of a public uprising and foreign troops had reached the areas to assist local policemen engaged in gun-battles with the insurgents, he said.
He said the attackers, many of them Pakistanis, had fled, leaving behind 20 dead bodies of their comrades. Some weapons and motorcycles were seized by Afghan forces. A local police commander, Sakhi Daad, was also killed, the official said.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said six policemen and three Taliban fighters were killed and three others were wounded in the battles.
Also on Saturday, 30 Taliban insurgents were killed during operations by Afghan army troops and police in the Panjwai district of southern Helmand province, the governor’s spokesman said.
Javed Faisal said the operations were conducted in Spirwan and Taloqan areas, adding four militants were captured alive and a Taliban-designated district chief, Mullah Bismillah, was injured.
In southern Zabul province, an insurgent was killed and two others were wounded during a clash between rival Taliban groups in the Nawbahar district, the district chief, Mohammad Wazir Jawadi, said.
In the same district, another three insurgents were killed and two more wounded in a blast caused by their own explosives, he added.
Elsewhere in the province, half a dozen Taliban were detained on Saturday during operations ongoing in the Sayori district, deputy police chief Ghulam Jilani Farahi said.
