WASHINGTON (PAN): US Ambassador to UN Susan Rice will replace Tom Donilon as National Security Advisor (NSA) to President, Barack Obama, a White House official said on Wednesday.
Obama is expected to make a formal announcement in this regard later in the day. Donilon will be departing as national security advisor in early July, the official added.
Rice was Obama’s first choice for the secretary of state. But strong opposition from the Republicans, who are highly critical of her statements in the aftermath of the Benghazi terrorist attack forced the president to drop her.
The position of national security advisor does not require a Senate confirmation. Obama will also announce Samantha Power’s nomination as his new ambassador to the United Nations.
