15 rebels killed in Logar offensive

PUL-I-ALAM (PAN forces’ operation in the central province of Logar, officials said on Sunday.

ISAF provided air support to the ground Afghan security personnel during the Saturday’s operation that was conducted in the Sorkhab area of Mohammad Agha district in order to boost security for the Ainak copper mine, Deputy Police Chief Col. Raees Khan Sadiq told Pajhwok Afghan News.

During the course of operation, upto 15 insurgents were killed and five others were detained, he said, adding civilians suffered no casualties.

After the operation, Afghan Local Police members were tasked with keeping security for areas cleared, he said.

The governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh, confirmed the ground and air offensive, saying it was still ongoing and would continue until order was fully restored in the area.

The coalition forces said in a statement issued from the Bagram airbase that Afghan and coalition forces killed one enemy combatant, discovered one weapons cache, and found and safely cleared six improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan.

The statement also said one IED cache in southern Ghazni, one in the Waghez district of southeastern Khost, one weapons cache in the Tanai district containing four mines, one IED, and six rocket-propelled grenades were seized during joint operations over the past 24 hours.

Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Kushamond District of southeastern Paktika province.

In central Maidan Wardak, Afghan and coalition troops killed one enemy of Afghanistan during operations in the Daymardad district. The coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Sayedabad district.
