JALALABAD (PAN (Voice of People) in the eastern zone.
Jirga members from different tribes gathered in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, saying the forum was not affiliated with any political party.
Seeking to resolve disputes through tribal elders’ advice and negotiations, the jirga would hold consultative meetings in provinces for resolving issues, said one of its leaders, Munsif Barakzai.
A tribal elder, Mohammad Islam, welcomed the forum’s creation and said: “I joined the jirga, considering its lofty goal and we will struggle for bringing about positive change.”
They would try to set up the jirga’s branches in all provinces of the country, said another member, Khan Mohammad Khaksar.
Naeem Khan Nadir, a grandson of King Zahir Shah, was elected as interim leader of the jirga, he added.
