KABUL): Additional forces have been deployed to sensitive areas, along busy roads and picnic points as part of a special security plan for Eidul Fitr festival across the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced on Wednesday.
Security forces, especially police, would remain high alert during Eid holidays, MoI spokesman Ghulam Siddiqui Siddique told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said police had always been on high alert to prevent any terrorist activity, but they had taken special measures for Eid days so that the festival passed off peacefully and the people enabled to share joys of the religious event.
He said intelligence organs had increased their activities to ward off any possible insurgent attack.
The spokesman urged residents to prevent their children from playing with firecrackers or similar devices during Eid celebrations.
Kabul residents always insist on improved security measures, said Jamshid, a resident. He called security arrangements in Kabul city as satisfactory, but urged more such efforts during Eid days so that people could celebrate the event in a peaceful environment.
“Taliban may opt to destructive attacks during Eid days. Security forces should focus on intelligence gathering to be aware of possible militant activities,” he said.
He asked all parties to the conflict to halt violence in respect to the Eid.
