KABUL negotiators in the first week of the current month, a media report said on Monday.
The Reuters news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying Aloko had met members of the Taliban’s peace negotiation team in Dubai without permission from the government.
“President Hamid Karzai has sacked his attorney general after the chief law officer held an unsanctioned meeting with Taliban peace negotiators in the United Arab Emirates.”
A parliamentarian also confirmed Aloko’s sacking, but an AGO official denied that his boss had been dismissed. The AG was at the Presidential Palace celebrating Independence Day, he added.
Despite being asked to stay away, the AG attended the meeting in Dubai that involved prominent Afghan officials, including High Peace Council members.
According to the official, senior cabinet members were trying to convince Karzai to reverse his decision. Aloko was appointed as attorney general in 2008.
