KABUL): The Investigating Fates of Prisoners Committee (IFPC) on Tuesday said it had issued release orders for 433 detainees from the Bagram Prison in central Parwan province after they were found innocent.
A member of the committee, Abdul Shakoor Dadras, told a press conference in Kabul the committee had investigated cases of about 519 prisoners so far over the past five months.
Of them, he said, 433 detainees were found innocent and so far 108 of them had been released and the remaining would be freed over the next few days.
He said their investigations found these individuals had been put behind bars against Afghanistan’s laws and regulations and without any evidence to their guilt.
Dadras said cases of another 89 prisoners had been finalised and referred to the prosecution office and additional 49 cases had also been investigated. These individuals included 46 prisoners, who were found innocent and their release orders had been issued, he said.
Most detainees in the notorious detention facility have been held on terrorism charges. The facility was transferred to the Afghan control from the US forces about five months back.
