HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential hopeful Gul Agha Sherzai on Tuesday accused the government of supporting another presidential runner Zalmai Rassoul in the April 5 elections.
Addressing a gathering attended by the thousands in the western city of Herat, the former governor asked the government to ensure the elections were free and fair.
“As we observe the situation, we realise that the elections will not be transparent. But I ask the government to make it sure the vote is credible, otherwise Afghanistan will face many problems.”
The former Nangarhar and Kandahar governor criticised the government for backing a West-return candidate.
“Zalmai Rassoul has come from a western country and he is now fully supported by the government. He does not have his own money and what he spends on his campaign is belonged to the government,” he alleged.
Sherzai is the first presidential candidate visiting Herat since the election campaign began on Feb. 2.
