No meeting with Obama: Dr. Abdullah

KABUL to meet US troops.

Obama landed at Bagram military base late Sunday and met with senior American officials and military commanders.

Abdullah expressed these views at a gathering arranged in his support by Mahmud Karzai, brother of President Hamid Karzai.

However, he said signing of the bilateral security agreement (BSA) would be his priority if he won the ballot.

On President Hamid Karzai refusal to meet Obama at Bagrame military base, Abdulla said his decision was an honour for Afghans but gave no further details.

Earlier, Karzai denied meeting Obama at the Bagram military base, saying he would welcome US president with Afghan traditional hospitality at the presidential palace.

Later, both presidents had a telephone chat and discussed the runoff and peace process and President Obama appreciated the constructive role of President Karzai and the Afghans people at the first round of the elections.

Abdullah underlined transparent and fair elections. “We’re committed to safeguard national interests and national unity and to improve living standard of Afghans,” he concluded.
