PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Eight people were killed on Friday noon when a powerful explosion rocked the Baraka district centre in northern Baghlan province, an official said.
A provincial council member from the area told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb exploded in front of a grain market in the district centre at 1pm when people were preparing for Juma prayers.
Haji Mohammad, the public representative, said a child, four civilians and three Afghan Local Police personnel were among the fatalities. Another 13 people including seven children were wounded.
He feared the death toll could be higher because the market was full of people at the time of the attack. The bazaar generally remains crowded on Friday — the weekly day-off.
