KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai, voicing pleasures over progress in talks between the presidential runners, on Saturday promised the nation would soon hear good news about the election result.
With the announcement of the outcome of the mid-June presidential runoff election, people’s suffering, pain and uncertainty would come to an end, the president said.
Addressing a ceremony marking the third anniversary of former president Burhanuddin Rabbani at the Loya Jirga tent in Kabul, Karzai said there were good days ahead for the Afghans.
“I am preoccupied with a lot of things these days. You already know what these tasks are. I’m going now to attend another meeting with jihadi leaders and candidates,” he remarked.
Referring to talks between the men batting to succeed him, the president said good news was on the way.
Earlier, both presidential campaigns said that candidates had almost reached an agreement but only minor difference over the announcement of the final election result remained. The IEC also said the election result would be announced soon.
In his speech, Karzai praised Rabbani as a national figure, a good scholar and a patriotic man, who encouraged Afghans to embrace peace and stability.
Karzai added he and all other Afghans would follow the peaceful way advocated by Rabbani.
