GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A kidnapped appellant prosecutor for southern Ghazni province was found dead while his counterpart for Helmand province was gunned down by unidentified assailants, officials said on Thursday.
Local officials said that Prosecutor Zabto had been kidnapped by the insurgents in the Asfandi locality on the outskirts of Ghazni City — the provincial capital — four days ago.
Shafiq Nang, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the prosecutor’s body was found in the Kalati area of the provincial capital last night.
A doctor in the Ghazni Civil Hospital, Noorullah, confirmed receiving the official’s body. The prosecutor had been shot six times, he said. The Taliban have not commented so far on the incident.
A day earlier, the provincial transport director was kidnapped and his life fate remains unclear. This is the fourth such incident in Ghazni during the past few weeks. The hajj director was killed in a similar incident less than three weeks back.
According to another report, the Helmand prosecutor was killed in an armed attack in Lashkargah, the provincial capital. Police spokesman Maj. Farid Ahmad Obaid said Hameedullah was killed by two motorcyclists.
The prosecutor was working in the counternarcotics section of the court of appeals. A resident of Lashkargah, Sahib Khan, said the incident happened late on Wednesday.
