PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Taliban have seized a driver and two vehicles of a demining organisation in the Khoshi district of central Logar province, officials said on Thursday.
Brig. General Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News first the militants beat the deminers and threatened them to death before taking away the driver and vehicles late on Wednesday.
The Demining Agency for Afghanistan (DAFA) workers had been clearing landmines in the province for months, Ishaqzai said, adding they had not informed security forces of their activity.
He said they had no clues the whereabouts of the driver and the vehicles, but police had launched a search.
Eng. Mohammad Abed, an eye witness, said on his way from the provincial capital to Khoshi district he saw the Taliban entering the de-miners’ tents and starting beating them.
Two months back, a number of de-miners were abducted in Logar province, but they were released after mediation from tribal elders.
