TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Seven policemen and dozens of militants have been killed in an ongoing clash in the Deh Rawud district of central Uruzgan province, officials said on Wednesday.
Haji Abdul Raziq, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the fierce fighting, involving hundreds of insurgents, erupted three days ago in three different towns.
Dozens of fighters have been killed and injured during the fight, with the bodies of 14 still lying at the scene, Raziq claimed. At least seven police personnel were also killed and three others injured, he acknowledged.
But Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed killing 17 policemen including three officers. He denied the Taliban fatalities, saying the fighters were putting up strong resistance.
