GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Afghan security forces have detained four people and recovered 700 kilograms of hashish from their possession during an operation in southeastern Paktia province, the police chief said on Thursday.
Maj. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan Special Forces raided a hashish-producing factory in the Odki locality of Gardez, the provincial capital.
During the raid, the smugglers exchanged gunfire with the security forces, leaving a businessman of the contraband dead and another wounded.
Col. Muhammad Askar, a counternarcotics official, said the drugs were smuggled to other parts of the country after production.
