Teacher, elder gunned down in Uruzgan, Nangarhar

TARINKOT/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): In two separate incidents, militants have gunned down a teacher in central Uruzgan province and a tribal elder in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said Wednesday.

Dost Muhammad Nayel, the governor’s spokesman of Uruzgan, told Pajhwok Afghan News unidentified gunmen killed the teacher Muhammad Wali in Pitawi village of Khas Uruzgan district late last day.

The insurgents dragged the teacher from his home and then sprayed him with bullets, he said, recalling the slain man was associated with the teaching profession for years.

In another brutal attack, militants shot dead a tribal elder in Sra Rud district of Nangarhar province on Wednesday, Abdul Rehman, the town’s administrative chief, said.

The brazen attack took place when Malik Safir was attending a funeral prayer. Ubaidullah, a resident of the district, said hundreds of people were gathered to attend the funeral for a local person when five gunmen forced their way and dragged Safir from among people.

The gunmen fled the scene after killing the elder, he added.
