KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The dairy factory in northern Kunduz province used 400,000 liters of milk it purchased from rural women, an official said on Sunday.
Now a decade-old, the plant in Kunduz has been processing and selling dairy products from 2000 liters of milk on a daily basis. Most of the milk suppliers are women.
Muhammad Zahir Wafa, the factory head, told Pajhowk Afghan News they purchased milk from residents for 15 afs a litre and after checking by doctors and a technical team, the milk was changed into other dairy products such as cream, butter, yogurt, long life milk and others.
He said more than 40 men and women worked at the factory that purchased milk from hundreds of women keeping livestock and exported its products to Takhar, Badakhshan, Baghlan and Kabul provinces.
A resident, Zarmina, said she supplied 30 liters of milk produced by her cows to the factory on a daily basis.
Another resident Muhammad Rassoul said he became economically self-sufficient by selling milk to the factory. He said earlier they had no specific market for selling milk, but now they sold milk to the factory and earned money with ease.
He said besides fulfilling his family’s daily needs, he was even able to meet his children’s education expenses by selling milk to the dairy plant.
Local officials said the factory produced quality dairy items than imported ones and urged Afghans to purchase local products for the sake of the country’s economic betterment.
