PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAJHWOK): Over 1,200 insurgents who joined peace process in northern Baghlan province have been provided with employment opportunities, an official said on Monday.
Abdul Samad Stanikzai, head of provincial peace council, told Pajhwok Afghan News majority of those rebels who shunned violence were members of the Taliban group and of Hizb-i-Islami.
The commanders who have joined the process, he added, were paid 13,000 afs by the government monthly while the fighters were being paid 8,000 afs.
Around 800 have been provided with job opportunities while 270 more were introduced to labor and social affairs department.
“Now, I have a carpentry shop in Baghshmal locality of Pul-i-Khumri and I’m satisfied with my work,” said Ali Mohammad one of the fighter who had joined peace process.
