Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz told reporters in Islamabad there were bright prospects of dialogue between the Afghan government and different groups in the coming days.
Islamabad wanted an early start to the peace negotiations, Aziz was quoted as saying by the Pakistani media. Pakistan is playing the role of a facilitator and persuading the groups to enter the process.
The advisor also renewed Pakistan’s interest in having strong trade and economic relations with Afghanistan as part of its policy of a peaceful neighborhood. Steps have been taken to remove trade impediments.
Aziz said Afghanistan was blessed with enormous mineral resources and hoped the international community would help it utilise the natural resources. “Afghanistan needs a lot of help for economic development but it has to resolve the political issues on its own.”
