GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A large number of militants have been killed and wounded in a series of operations in the Ahmadabad district of southeastern Paktia province, the military claimed on Thursday.

The 203rd Military Corps said the Afghan National Army (ANA) commando unit, having air support from foreign troops, killed 32 fighters and wounded three others during the operation in Gharak area.

A statement from the corps said a car and a large quantity of weapons were seized as a result of the offensive. It said nothing about casualties among the security forces.

Residents claimed seeing a large number of security personnel in the area, saying airstrikes were conducted in Gharak. One of them, Sohbat Khan, said he had seen the bodies of 12 fighters.

He added several security personnel had also suffered casualties during the operation in Gharak, where similar offensives have been conducted in the past as well.
