KABUL Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor on Saturday urged all members of the movement to ensure unity and reconciliation in their ranks.
In a message, Mansoor called the group a shared home for the fighters, saying the recent changes had created no differences within the movement.
Following the announcement of his predecessor’s demise, Mansoor’s ascendency to the top slot drew strong opposition from Mullah Omar’s son and brother. However, Omar’s family has now pledged allegiance to the new leader.
“I’m once again making it clear the Islamic Emirate is not the fiefdom of one particular individual or group. It’s a share home to all of us,” Mansoor remarked, downplaying rifts over his appointment.
Reservations of some people about the leadership change were full of sincerity, he noted, urging dissenters not to alienate themselves from the group leadership because such things damaged the movement.
He welcomed anyone with a goodwill gesture and corrective suggestions to discuss them within the movement. He offered a hand of friendship to those “who are staying aloof from us due to differences”.
Mullah Mansoor reiterated: “The Islamic Emirate is our shared home, where all members will be treated equally. Dissenters will not be dealt with in a discriminatory way.”
He called for all members of the movement not to use foul language against one another. Mistrust was not in their interest, Mansoor concluded.
