140 persons hurt in traffic accidents during Eid

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Over 140 persons have been wounded in traffic accidents in the past three days of Eid-ul-Adha in western Herat province, officials said on Sunday.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman of the Khawaja Abdullah Ansari Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News more traffic accident had taken place on this Eid compared to the Eid-ul-Fitar and last year’s Eid-ul-Adha.

Col. Mohammad Qasim, senior traffic department officials, confirmed the figures of injured people and said reckless driving and increase in the number of motorcycle and rickshaws caused the accidents.

He said the city could not adjust more than 50,000 vehicles, while currently more than 400,000 vehicles were being driven in the city.

Ahmad Shah, a resident of Herat City, said increase in the number of motorcycles and rickshaws caused most of the traffic mishaps, in addition, most drivers did not follow traffic rules.
