War-displaced families receive aid in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): More than 600 war-displaced families from Kunduz were delivered aid in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.

Most of the displaced families lived under tents or sharing houses with their relatives in the provincial capital, Faizabad, the acting head of Afghanistan (ARCS) said.

Rahmatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News 200 of the households were given urgent assistance, including clothing and food. Over 100 families received rice, beans, sugar, ghee and tea.

The official said the rest of 90 families were given kitchen ware, health kits, blankets, gas cylinders and tarpaulins. Since the beginning of the war in Kunduz more than 600 families have been displaced to the province.

“We are in a bad situation and it is the first ever I have received aid. The government should maintain security in Kunduz to help us return home,” said Nazar Mazar, one of the displaced people.

Another displaced person, Abdul Ahmad, claimed the Taliban. He asked for more assistance, including facilitation of their return to Kunduz.
